Dilution Guides

Learn how you can safely apply essential oils topically

Essential oils are highly concentrated. You can add your preferred carrier oil to dilute them. The oils will "carry" themselves deeper into the skin through this action, improving absorption, spreading, and preventing skin irritation. Consult the chart below for instructions on dilution.

OVERALL DIRECTIONS

  • 1 drop essential oil to 2 tsp of carrier oil - Infants (6-24 months)

  • 3 drops essential oils to 2 tsp of carrier oil - Elderly, Facial application

  • 6 drops essential oils to 2 tsp of carrier oil - Maximum daily recommended dilution

Before applying essential oils to children younger than two years old, please get the advice of an aromatherapist or medical professional. Children under ten years old shouldn't be exposed to hot oils like clove buds, oregano, and cinnamon; instead, they should be diluted to a 0.5% concentration.

***THESE ARE NOT RECOMMENDED DOSAGE RANGES.

Patch test: It's a good idea to apply a drop of diluted essential oil to a tiny patch of skin, such the inside of an elbow, before using an essential oil for the first time. For the first 24 hours after application, be mindful of any negative responses. Skin irritation, headaches, nausea, respiratory problems, and dizziness are examples of possible responses.
